Chichester High School welcomed Jess Brown-Fuller and leaders from 14 schools recently to highlight the impact of its phone-free policy. Since October, the school has used YONDR pouches to store students’ phones securely during the day, becoming the first in #Chichester to introduce the system. Phones remain locked away until the end of the day, helping to cut distractions, improve focus and encourage more face-to-face interaction. Staff, students and families have supported the move, with the school reporting improvements in behaviour, concentration and socialising. Visiting leaders from across Sussex and Hampshire observed the system in action and discussed how similar approaches could work in their own schools. Students say they are talking more at break times and concentrating better in lessons. Co-headteacher Dr Nicholas Taylor described the early impact as significant, while #Chichester MP Jess Brown-Fuller praised the initiative and said stronger action is needed to protect young people from harmful online content. We would also like to recognise the exceptional leadership of Assistant Headteacher Mr Robert Ward in driving the implementation of YONDR. From initial research and planning through to consultation with families, staff training and the smooth day-to-day rollout, he has overseen every stage with clarity and care. His calm, consistent approach has ensured that the system was introduced positively and purposefully, and the strength of the early impact is a direct reflection of his dedication and meticulous organisation. #WeTHRIVEatCHS https://www.chichesterhigh-tkat.org/parents/yondr

National Schools’ Badminton Championships What an incredible day of badminton! After claiming victory in their local round a few months ago, the four girls proudly represented their school at the national championships - a remarkable achievement and a true reflection of their commitment, hard work, and determination. The standard of competition was exceptionally high, with outstanding skill and resilience on display throughout the day. Every match was filled with intensity, teamwork, and flashes of real brilliance on court. While they may not be progressing to the next stage, the girls should feel immensely proud of their performance and the dedication they demonstrated from beginning to end. #WeTHRIVEatCHS

We were delighted to host an exciting Year 3 and 4 Key Steps Gymnastics event, welcoming pupils from North Mundham Primary School St Richard's Catholic Primary School Kingsham Primary School and Chichester Free School It was a fantastic morning of energy, enthusiasm and teamwork, with all pupils demonstrating impressive balance, coordination and determination as they worked through their routines. The standard on display was excellent, and it was wonderful to see so many young gymnasts performing with confidence and big smiles. A special mention must go to our brilliant student leaders, who supported the event throughout and finished the session with a short gymnastics showcase of their own. Their performance was a great inspiration for the younger pupils and a fantastic example of leadership in action. We are incredibly proud of everyone who took part and grateful to the staff who supported the event. Our Chichester High School Sixth Form students rounded off half term in style with a fantastic Valentine’s celebration! ❤️ The event was a great success, raising over £100 through students wearing red and purchasing roses and Valentine’s cards for friends and loved ones. The atmosphere was full of positivity and community spirit. A big congratulations to Jacob Sprules, who won the “Guess How Many Sweets in the Jar” competition! It has been an incredibly busy week for Year 12 alongside their Apprenticeship Fair, and they have been outstanding role models and ambassadors of our CHS Thrive values throughout. After half term, our Year 13 students begin their Gold PPEs. We wish them every success - we know they will continue to THRIVE! Funds raised will be split between St Wilfrid's Hospice and the school fund. #WeTHRIVEatCHS

The Maths Department’s Paint by Numbers Club has quickly become a real success story. What began as a simple idea to offer a calm, creative space has grown into a well-attended and much-loved activity, with students returning week after week. The structured nature of paint by numbers has proved especially appealing: it’s accessible to everyone, requires no prior artistic experience, and offers a satisfying sense of progress and achievement. The club has created a relaxed, inclusive atmosphere where students can unwind, chat, and focus in a different way from the usual classroom setting. Many have commented on how enjoyable it is to switch off, concentrate on colour and pattern, and take pride in completing a finished piece. It has also been a subtle but effective way to build confidence, perseverance, and attention to detail - skills that naturally complement mathematical thinking. While popularity has meant the sessions can sometimes feel busy and materials need careful organisation, these are positive challenges that reflect just how well the club is going. Overall, the Paint by Numbers Club is going really well, highlighting the Maths Department’s commitment to supporting wellbeing, creativity, and community alongside academic learning. Come and join in - Wednesday lunch times in S14 with Miss Rahman - open to all year groups. #WeTHRIVEatCHS
