On Thursday 22nd January, 40 of our Year 9 students participated in Chichester Marks Holocaust Memorial Day. They viewed the powerful film ‘One Life’, which tells the true story of Nicholas Winton, a London stockbroker who rescued 669 Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia just before the outbreak of World War II.

The film, introduced by Clare Apel - whose ancestor was among the last children saved - highlighted the horrors of the Holocaust while celebrating Winton’s remarkable compassion.

Following the film, students engaged in a workshop with the Holocaust Memorial Trust, debating the roles of victims and perpetrators. Through discussions, they examined how the denial of basic rights led to mass persecution and considered the contemporary importance of protecting human rights.
